A 2008 Gallup study on employee engagement showed that only 29 percent of employees in the United States are engaged, about 54% are not engaged and 17% are disengaged. Since this study, our economy has taken a sharp downturn and employee engagement has no doubt been negatively impacted.
Our April program, hosted by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, will define employee engagement, discuss the current economic conditions affecting engagement and present practices at RCL aimed at keeping employees engaged, particularly during rough times. You will receive insight into the planning, implementation and aftermath of a 2008 RIF (reduction in force) at RCL. The important role that HR/Learning & Development plays in these turbulent times will be examined.

About our presenter:
Sonia Diaz-Del Oro, a Human Resources professional with over 15 years of experience, is Director - Global Learning & Organization Development function for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. in Miami. She joined Royal Caribbean in April 2001 as Manager, Corporate Training and Development and served in that position until she was promoted into her current role in late 2007. Prior to joining Royal Caribbean, Sonia held management positions at Levi Strauss & Co. and John Alden Financial Corporation.
Sonia earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Florida International University (FIU) and also holds a certificate in Training & Development from FIU.
