Mary Haley
Mary Haley is a past president of the ASTD Miami Chapter and is currently the Chapter's Vice President of Technology. Originally from Ohio, Mary moved to Miami from Los Angeles in 1991 as a manager in the packaging industry. She left the packaging industry in 1994 to pursue a master's degree in Adult Education at FIU, only to discover that she loved the university environment. She received her doctorate in Human Resource Development from FIU in 2000 and has worked at the University since 1997.
As Training Manager in the Media and Technology Support unit of the Division of IT at FIU, Mary is focused on finding ways that technology can enhance and streamline the work of FIU faculty and staff. She and her training staff develop and deliver workshops on Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook; and enterprise-wide technology platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint and Blackboard Learning System, the learning management system (LMS) used at FIU for fully online, hybrid, and web-assisted courses. Mary especially enjoys working with faculty to help them find ways technology can enhance their courses and improve student learning.
Mary is fluent in Spanish and has lived overseas, so she is completely at home in Miami. In her spare time, she teaches courses for FIU's College of Education as an adjunct faculty member, reads, enjoys entertaining friends, and volunteers for the Chapter. Dogs and cats are ever present in Mary's life - this is Lilly on the half wall in the photo.
